At Batchelor & Kimball, the pre-construction phase is a critical first step to any project. The pre-construction process lays out the groundwork for delivering successful projects that are delivered on schedule and on budget. During pre-construction we look for ways to deliver a project more efficiently and safely by maximizing pre-fabrication.
- Budgeting: Pre-construction department capable of providing accurate pricing and budgets from the conceptual stage of a project.
- Design-Assist/IPD: Work hand-in-hand with architects and engineers to assist in the design of a project before construction commences.
- Design Review: Perform constructibility and maintainability reviews of the design with the owner’s best interests in mind. We anticipate problems before they occur.
- Engineering: Seven professional engineers on staff with over 100 years of collective design experience.
- Energy Management: Perform energy modeling and consulting to determine the best value system that will deliver energy efficiency over the life cycle of your facility.
- LEED/Green Building: LEED Accredited Professionals on staff to perform LEED consulting.

Batchelor & Kimball uses state-of-the-art Revit and AutoCAD technology. We produce comprehensive three-dimensional drawings with ductwork and piping coordinated with the structure, ceilings and lights before construction begins. This results in drawings so precise and thorough that other trades often use them to layout their overhead work, which translates into fewer field conflicts. Field changes are also recorded on the drawings throughout the project, ensuring an accurate set of final documents.
We are capable of creating 4D and 4D BIM models, which are used throughout the project – from estimating, to fabrication, to project commissioning and turnover.

Batchelor & Kimball’s Commissioning Services Group is involved in a project before the first person is on the construction site. We take a three-phase approach to all of our commissioning projects: (1) Design and Preconstruction Phase Commissioning, (2) Construction Phase Commissioning, and (3) Operational Phase Commissioning. Our Commissioning Services Group is equipped to deliver results throughout each phase.
Our team develops an extensive commissioning plan to ensure the engineer’s and owner’s intent is met. We also perform an operability analysis during the design and preconstruction phase to ensure the installed system is easily maintained and accessible. This operational mindset follows throughout the duration of the project. During the construction phase, our commissioning team monitors the start-up process and ensures that all systems have been installed and are operating according to design. We execute the commissioning plan with dedicated commissioning technicians who manage all five levels of the commissioning process. All of our work is documented electronically and provided to the owner, along with extensive owner training. During the building operation phase, our commissioning group monitors the operation of the building and is available to perform energy studies or plant optimization. They work in tandem with the Service Department to ensure the building is operation to the same level as it did on the first day of service.
